The Education You Need for Armed Security Guard Certification

Our program includes extensive armed security officer training, covering firearms safety, legal responsibilities, and tactical defense. We also offer an 8-hour refresher course for those needing to meet their annual training requirements.

16-Hour Armed Security Guard Card Course

The armed guard card class runs 8 hours a day for two days and will allow students to obtain their Arizona Armed Guard Card. Successful students must demonstrate a knowledge and proficiency of armed security guard issues by passing a written test with a minimum score of 70 percent at the conclusion of the class. Students will also be required to display shooting proficiency by firing a 50-round qualification on our range and achieving a score of at least 70 percent. In total, 50 rounds of ammunition will be used during this course.

Students who have completed the course requirements are eligible for an Arizona Concealed Weapons Permit (CCW). ASG will provide the paperwork and required documents at no charge upon request. The permit fee is currently $60

8-Hour Armed Security Guard Card Refresher Course

The armed guard refresher class is an 8-hour course designed for currently licensed armed security guards to satisfy their annual training requirements each calendar year or armed guards who need to renew their license after two years. All students must demonstrate a knowledge and proficiency of armed security guard issues by passing a written test with a minimum score of 70 percent. Students will also be required to display shooting proficiency by firing a 50-round qualification and achieving a score of at least 70 percent. In total, a minimum of 50 rounds of ammunition will be used during this course. After the course, for those interested and qualified, we will assist students with their application for an Arizona Concealed Carry Permit (CCW).

What to Bring for Armed Guard Training

With the exception of rental firearms, students are expected to bring their own gear to training courses.

For the Classroom

  • Note-Taking Materials (Pen, Paper, Tablet, etc.)
  • Snack and Beverages

For the Range

  • Duty Weapon and Three Magazines
  • 50 Rounds of Ammunition
  • Duty Gear – A holster is required. Vest is optional
  • Eye and Ear Protection
  • Appropriate Range Clothing
  • Please note – No food or drink is allowed on the range

Students that do not have a duty weapon to qualify with may rent one from the range. ASG does not provide weapons, magazines or ammunition. Please contact the range to inquire about rental fees:

If you rent a firearm from the range or purchase ammunition from them, you will need to bring a government issued photo ID with you, as required by law for weapons rental and ammunition sales.

Do You Have Questions About Armed Guard Card Training?

If you are considering taking a course to receive your armed guard card, here are the answers to few common questions.

Those interested in obtaining their armed security guard card must have completed the 8 hour unarmed training before taking the 16 hour armed guard course.

Renewing armed guards can take either the 16-hour class or the 8-hour class. Both will suffice for 2-year renewal training.

If you fail to qualify, you may be given a code to re-register for the next class at a reduced rate at the instructor’s discretion. If you fail to qualify a second time, you must re-register again at full cost.

No. Arizona requires you to obtain an Arizona armed guard card. Out of state training and licenses do not count towards training.

No. Students are encouraged to train and practice on their own prior to range qualification.

Armed security guards are required to complete an 8 hour refresher course every calendar year. Our 8 hour armed guard course will satisfy this requirement. The annual training does not have a license fee associated with it.
